Deep Fried Apple Pie Egg Rolls

It’s Apple season! So with that, we are in need of a deep fried dessert.

Deep Fried Apple Pie Egg Rolls, offer a handheld, sweet, and crispy treat, that can give a classic apple pie a run for its money.

The prep work for the filling is more than worth it, especially with fresh, in season apples.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 12 egg roll wrappers
  • 1 egg + 1 Tbsp. water
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 3 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 Non-stick Cooking Spray
  • 1 container of Vanilla ice cream for serving, optional

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 375° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray it with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a bowl, mix together the apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, allspice and salt.
  • Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes.
  • Use a fork to whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon water in a bowl.
  • To make the egg rolls, lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean, dry work surface.
  • Brush a light coating of egg wash around the edges. Scoop 2 tablespoons of apple filling onto one edge. Fold in the sides and roll up the egg roll wrapper around the filling.
  • Continue with the rest of the egg rolls.
  • Set them on the parchment paper and spritz them lightly with cooking spray.
  • Bake for 20 minutes.
  • Melt the butter in the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds. In a small bowl, stir together 3 tablespoons sugar and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • Remove the pan of egg rolls from the oven. Brush the egg rolls with melted butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  • Bake for 5 more minutes. Remove from the oven to cool for 5 minutes.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • (Optional) Dust with powdered sugar.
